Wines of the Week

(by susie)

Peter was filming in Marks & Spencer this week for Saturday Kitchen so it came to our attention they’re running another 25%-off wine deal (when you buy at least six bottles).

The offer ends on Monday 5th March so you’ll need to be quick off the mark.

Below are a couple of suggestions of wines which are fantastic value for money when you take 25% off the headline price.

FIZZ

De Saint Gall Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru NV (£27 before discount) – a nutty, vibrant fizz with plenty of class – lovely stuff. 7/10

WHITE

Les Pierblancs Sauvignon Blanc 2010 (£8.99 before discount) – Peter recommended this recently on Saturday Kitchen and it went down a storm. Great mini-Sancerre in all but name: mineral, harmonious, foodie…beautiful. 7/10

Petit Chablis 2010 (£9.99 before discount) – classic, elegant Chablis – maybe not the most concentrated or complex, but at the reduced price a beautiful waxy stoney appley drinking white. 7.5/10

Journey’s End Honeycomb Chardonnay 2011 (£9.99 before discount) – sumptuous, creamy Chardonnay: full-on but with wonderful balancing acidity. Great value at the reduced price. 6.5/10

RED

L’Etoile de Romanin Les Baux de Provence 2007 (£13.99 before discount) – oh what a lovely wine. Rich, savoury aromas, smooth succulent palate. Dense and classy. Yum. 7.5-8/10

Volnay Domaine Roux 2009 (£20 before discount) – earthy summer berries with a smooth, spicy palate. Silky, gamey, wonderful. 8/10

Hunter Valley Shiraz 2010 (£9.99 before discount) – juicy peppery style, more restrained than the Ozzie norm, with savoury charm and lovely perfume. Could drink a lot of this! Great finesse and self-assurance. 7/10

SWEET

Vin Santo del Chianti Rufina, Villa di Monte 1995 (£15.99 before discount) – raisins, walnuts, biscuits and milk choc. What’s not to love?! Yum yum! 8.5/10
