Saturday Kitchen 14.9
(by susie)
Alton this week on Saturday Kitchen wine duty. And, what with this being the bicentenary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice, I got to wear a bonnet. Much to my husband’s amusement…
Wine for Gennaro Contaldo’s chicken with garlic, rosemary and bruschetta:
-
Triade 2012 (from £6.74, Waitrose)
Susie’s comments: lovely blend of three indigenous Italian varieties: fragrant, refreshing and full-flavoured. Won’t overpower the beautiful simplicity of the dish and ties in really nicely.
Wine for Phil Howard’s greengage, nectarine and gooseberry fool:
-
Rustenberg Straw Wine 2011 (from £8.99, Majestic)
Susie’s comments: nectar. Made from grapes dried on straw, so it’s intense and honeyed. Creamy and rich but also with lively acidity, which you need for the tangy fruit here.
Recipes, links and details
Matthew Horne was in the house on Saturday and his heaven and hells, cooked by stand-in presenter Angela Hartnett, were:
Whole baked sea bream with a spinach, new potato and parsley salad: M&S Picpoul de Pinet 2012 (£8.49)
Mini pavlovas with vanilla cream and strawberry sauce: M&S Moscatel de Valencia 2012 (£6.79)
