Saturday Kitchen 21.9
(by peter)
The Saturday Kitchen wine bandwagon was privileged to gain rare access inside Battersea Power station this week, to highlight London’s Open House Weekend, as part of which this amazing site is open for a few hours this weekend. Do check it out – you can find more details via this link. It’s the last time you’ll be able to see it as it is, before the renovations start in earnest.
But back to the serious business of food and wine. This week my choices were:
Wine for James Tanner’s brill with fennel pollen, potato spaghetti and parsley sauce
-
Extra Special Gavi 2012 (£8, Asda)
Peter’s comments: When I tweeted about this dish, one option came back loud and clear: Albarino. And it did work brilliantly with the subtle but engaging flavours here. Any good, unoaked European white makes a decent match but Italian matches the feel and flavour well. This is a lovely, food-friendly white from Asda.
Wine for Stephane Reynaud’s tielle setoise (squid pie to you and me)
Winemaker’s Selection Cotes du Rhone blanc 2012 (£6.99, Sainsbury’s)
Peter’s comments: we cracked open red, rose and white to try with this but the latter worked best. It’s actually quite a rich dish so the palate needs refreshing between mouthfuls. Stick with local Languedoc whites – this one is really good value.
Recipes, links and details

Chocolate mousse cake with berries – Tabali Encantado Late Harvest Muscat (£7.99, Waitrose)
