On Saturday Kitchens
(by peter & susie)
We’ve been out and about experiencing the Christmas shopping frenzy more than ever this year.
This is partly the result of an ever-growing Christmas present list, but also down to the fact that we’ve both been filming for BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen in consecutive weeks.
Susie spent some happy, if somewhat chilly moments frolicking about on the beaches and in the supermarkets of Littlehampton, on the south coast. (And for lunch, the East Beach café came up trumps.)
She was matching wines to go with Paul Rankin’s warm game tart with hot and sour cabbage and Gennaro Contaldo’s tagliatelle with mussels.
Her show was a pre-recorded broadcast which will air from 10am on New Year’s day – a great way to welcome in 2011.
Peter, meanwhile, took in the bright lights of Slough to find wines to partner Nathan Outlaw’s Christmassy monkfish and Nic Watt’s ham with Japanese spiced apples.
This show goes out on Saturday 18th December – the last Saturday Kitchen before Christmas – so fire up your telly and get your wine glasses at the ready for some cockle-warming fun.
[Post-script: UK-based readers can view the show on BBC iplayer for the next week – ie until Christmas day – by clicking here.]
We can promise some beautiful cooking, top wines – plus references to The Office and some very girly throwing of pebbles into the sea.
We’ll also be putting some of our Saturday Kitchen highlights from 2010 together for this site in the New Year – so watch this space…
In the meantime, happy Christmas – and here’s to a delicious new year!
