Great value fizz
(by Susie Barrie MW)
I’ve written a piece in Decanter magazine’s December edition, which is out now, recommending some great value sparkling wine alternatives to champagne.
You can read the article in the magazine, or here’s a PDF of the piece: Susie recommends great value fizz in Decanter December 2015
There will no doubt be plenty of cut-price fizz on the shelves this Christmas – on which note, I see Tesco has already fired the starting gun, promoting its Louis Delauney Champagne down to £9 (from the hardly lofty heights of £14 originally, it should be noted).
But these wines represent great value whether promoted or not. Peter and I tasted through more than a hundred bottles to pick these 25, which come in a delightful range of styles. All of them are fantastic value and well worth a try. There are quite a few English sparkling wines but the Loire, USA, Jura, Franciacorta, Tasmania, Prosecco, Cava, South Africa and New Zealand all feature.
