Porter call
(by peter & susie)
Touring all 91 league football grounds by bike and stopping for a drink at each one isn’t something most of us would contemplate as a lark.
But then Chris Porter, chairman of wine trade charity The Benevolent, isn’t your average Joe.
Football mad, he’s embarking on this challenge with the help of public transport and his faithful Brompton bike on 12th May to raise money for this excellent cause. (For which, incidentally, and by way of a newsflash, Susie and I will be fundraising later this year when we run – gulp – the Marathon du Médoc in aid of The Benevolent and Vintners’ Foundation, in memory of our friend Michael Cox, who died recently. But more on this in due course.)
Any support for Chris, whether it be money, publicity, moral support or even keeping him company on one of the legs of his journey, would be very welcome. He has a very smart website via which you can donate and find out a bit more about this escapade. You can also support The Benevolent directly or by attending one of their upcoming events, which you can find detailed on their site here.
In the meantime, bon voyage Chris! May all your pints be halves.
