Saturday Kitchen 30.5

(by Susie Barrie MW)

Susie-Barrie-MW-for-BBC1's-Saturday-KitchenIt was FA Cup final weekend and the trophy even made its way into the Saturday Kitchen studio (hope no one got greasy fingers on it…) This was a split wine shoot, with Susy Atkins in Birmingham for Aston Villa and I went to the home of Arsenal in north London.

Arsenal ran out winners in the match – but all of these wines are well worth championing.

Susie’s wine for Sabrina Ghayour’s Persian snacks

  • Passimento Bianco 2014, Italy (£8.99, Majestic)

Susie comments: Strong flavours here including tamarind, chilli, lemon and honey – but this supple, succulent wine makes a brilliant match. The wine’s quite rich, a novel style made using partially dried grapes and that richness works really well with the sweet and spice of the dish, as well as all those varied flavours. Well worth a try.

Our recommendations for Dion Dublin’s heaven and hell, as cooked by James Martin, were:

T-bone steak with béarnaise sauce: Margaret River Merlot, Australia (£9.75, Marks & Spencer)

Clams and mussels with asparagus, pea and broad bean: Domaine Jacky Marteau Sauvignon Blanc Touraine, France (£6.75, Marks & Spencer)

Thanks to James, Daniel, Sabrina and Dion. Also to the fabulous team at Cactus TV and our brilliant wine VT crew. Thanks to you for popping in here – and if you’d like to see the recipes, they’re available on the BBC Food site. And the show is on iplayer. Cheers!
