Susie chairs inaugural UK Wine Awards

A break from the norm in that this isn’t our writing (for once), it’s more a collection of pieces about the inaugural UK Wine Awards, which Susie chaired in May 2017.

UK wine is on a roll. Quality has never been better – and it’s not just the sparkling wine but also whites and even reds and sweets which are driving this country’s burgeoning reputation for fine wine.

Hence the UK Wine Awards – a timely new competition aimed at rewarding the very best of this country’s wines. Susie assembled a crack team of judges and spent two days hunkered down tasting and re-tasting 300 English and Welsh wines. Five or ten years ago this would have been an unenviable task. It’s testament to how far and fast English wine has come on that it turned out to be a real treat.

Susie gives her thoughts in pieces by sponsors Hotel du Vin and Country Life. The awards were also featured in The Guardian, the Observer, The Times (behind paywall) and the Drinks Business.

Full results from the competition can be found on the EWP site. Cheers to all the winners!
