The Austrian Bubble
From Champagne to Prosecco, even English sparkling wine, it seems we just can’t get enough of fizz.
And as our thirst for the bubbly stuff grows, it’s starting to throw a spotlight on the lesser known fizz-producing parts of the world. Like Austria.
Susie visited the country at a time when it has just introduced new legislation to help classify and promote its fizz, a category that in momentum terms has lagged behind the country’s well respected whites, reds and sweets.
She found some excellent wines and, while the new classification system may not be ideal, concludes that, ‘An exciting new era for Austrian sparkling wine is on the horizon.’
