Top English sparkling wines to try this summer

We’ve been tasting a fair bit of English sparkling wine lately. (Lately?! Who are we kidding…it’s a pretty regular occurrence if we’re honest…)

In due course we’ll be featuring some highlights from the GB Wine Awards competition, which Susie chaired again this year and in which the standard was higher than ever. And there are a couple of other things we will be writing or have already written – you may have seen the news of our English wine guide, for example.

But this particular Decanter online piece focused on wines from the Wine GB annual tasting in late April 2018, where there was a palpable buzz in the air. This event has gone from strength to strength, featuring 68 wines in 2002 to more than 200 this year (lovely to see the Welsh contingent present as well).

Featured are the likes of Sugrue Pierre, Hattingley Valley, Smith & Evans, Gusbourne, Exton Park, Coates & Seely, Wiston, Nyetimber, Breaky Bottom, Greyfriars, Black Chalk, Harrow & Hope, Hoffmann & Rathbone, Rathfinny and Forty Hall. A mixture of new and familiar names, some a bit different or edgy, all delicious.

By way of footnote, the feature is on the Decanter Premium platform. This is a new paying subscription area of their site so if you can’t read the full article after clicking on the link below, apologies for the lack of access.
