Wines of the Week

Carmel Road Riesling(by peter)

Two wines this time, both of which I’ve tasted over the last week and have seriously impressed me.

They’re not the cheapest but they do offer tremendous bang for the buck.

Carmel Road Riesling, Monterey County 2009 (£14.95, Corney & Barrow) is a delightfully toasty, apple-scented white with a tangy but succulent flavour profile, really elegant and impressive (7-7.5/10).

Domaine Maubernard Bandol Rouge 2009 (£16.95, Roberson) is an amazing wine for the money – young but approachable with lovely earthy leathery pressed fruit characteristics and fine, firm texture. Really grown-up and food-friendly (7.5-8/10).

Cheers to that!
