What to recommend when the great Pierre Koffmann is cooking venison with raspberry and bitter chocolate sauce on Saturday Kitchen?

I went for the hedonistic rather than the classic option. Both had their merits (the classic being a nice Rioja) but the richer wine really mirrored the fruity and dark chocolate intensity of that amazing sauce. The minty flavours in the wine also tie in nicely. Pierre pointed out it was a bit alcoholic when tasted solo (fair enough) but noted how well it went with the dish.
