At the discounted price, this Gavi is a bit of a bargain.

What’s more, it’s a beautiful food wine to put with food, which is why I paired it with Marianne Lumb’s baked potato gnocchi with cavolo nero and pumpkin on Saturday Kitchen.

The recipe is a very seasonal celebration of the potato and other earthly delights. It needs something with an earthy subtlety and yet also refinement – Italian whites were the standout when we lined up a range at home. And this Gavi is not only wonderfully fresh, it’s also generously textured and just seamless with the dish.
