Chavy-Chouet Bourgogne Rouge La Taupe 2014

Chavy-Chouet Bourgogne Rouge La Taupe 2014, 12.5%

(£30 for a magnum (150 cl), Marks & Spencer or via Wine Searcher in different formats)

Looking ahead to autumn and the festive period can be dismaying. Planning the wine menu, on the other hand, proves remarkably uplifting.

Take this wine. A delightfully elegant, juicy, refreshing red Burgundy with savoury, herbal and mushroomy inflections. The kind of thing that’s delightful on its own but sings with all kinds of poultry, game and lamb.

What’s more, it comes in magnums – ideal for larger gatherings and guaranteed to impress. At the equivalent price (£15 per bottle), it’s very good value, similar in style to many a higher priced red Burgundy. (These vineyards used to be classified as AOC Pommard until the 1970s and the wine was matured in barrels for 8-12 months). (7.5/10, Peter, Sept 2016)
