If you like your reds a bit funky, this is a bargain. Strictly speaking, this Grange des Combes is AOC St-Chinian-Roquebrun, a blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. It’s peppery, meaty and full of sun-baked herbal flavours. The tannin is grippy, the flavours long and intense.

It’s pretty full-on and certainly not for everyone. But I loved it. Enjoy it with some slow-cooked mutton or charcuterie. (7-7.5/10, Peter, Sept 2016)
