Pasqua Passimento Bianco 2015
Pasqua Passimento Bianco 2015, Italy
(from £8.99, Majestic)
We’ve recommended this beautiful white on Saturday Kitchen a few times now – and make no apologies for it.
It works really well with food because not only is it delicious in its own right, it also has a richness that can cope really well with vivid flavours, which other wines struggle to keep up with.
On this occasion, I paired it with Tom Aikens’ roast scallops, curry and piccalilli – a delightful dish but one with some pretty punchy flavours, which the Passimento coped with beautifully, not only refreshing the palate between mouthfuls but softening the spice and bite of the flavours on the plate.
‘It’s always really difficult to match wines with intense flavours or vinegar,’ Tom pointed out, before describing the wine match as ‘beautiful’. Studio guest and former Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington also took a shine to the wine, grabbing her glass with gusto and declaring it ‘delicious!’
