As I wandered from table to table at ‘The Great Sherry Tasting’ on London’s Southbank, I began to wonder how on earth I would choose my ‘Top Tip’ out of such an array of intriguing and excellent wines.

Then, as I tasted my last wine of the day, I found what I was looking for. A wine that offered that magical combination of exceptional flavour, typicity and value for money. Lustau’s Puerto Fino Solera Reserva, with its salty, mealy, blanched almond flavours and elegant length, is a classic. Paired with a plate of Serrano ham and marcona almonds – or as Fiona Beckett cleverly suggested in an excellent food and sherry masterclass, sushi – it is even better. A brilliant wine that shows just how irresistible great sherry is. (8/10, Susie, Sept 2016)
