Toscana Rosso 2014
Toscana Rosso IGT 2014, Italy, 12%
(£4.50, Tesco)
This easy-going, food-friendly red is quite simply one of the best value reds we’ve come across in quite a while. Snap it up! Susie recommended this on Saturday Kitchen to go with rack of lamb with gnocchi and Provençal vegetables by Frederick Forster – a lovely summery recipe but not the easiest to pair with wine (lamb rarely is).
Many wines, especially reds, overwhelmed the subtle flavours and tender lamb. A Sancerre rosé worked well but this light-bodied, elegant red was perfect. (Studio guest Alexandra Burke termed it, ‘gorgeous’.) Don’t be afraid to chill it down for summer drinking either (remember our 20:20 rule – when it’s hot, stick your reds in the fridge for 20 mins before serving). And – enjoy! (Susie, June 2016, 6/10)
