Summary
We’ve done some pretty amazing interviews in the course of making Wine Blast.
Most of them we have to edit right down.

The legendary Hugh Johnson OBE riffing on things as diverse as Islam; drinking wine that’s, ‘been alive since before Shakespeare was born’; the historic precedents of Tokaji; the wine trend he defines as, ‘vulgar and crass’; wine that smelt, ‘like an open grave’; and how the English nation used to be, ‘drunk all the time.’
He even confesses to, ‘making up’ some of his seminal early work…
We first released a slimmed-down version of this interview with Hugh back in 2020 (it was recorded in the teeth of the Covid outbreak).
But now you can hear the interview in its full glory, with bonus bits that weren’t included in that 2020 episode including Hugh mentioning pornography, how cricket relates to Bordeaux vintages, natural wine, Coravin, and no-and-low alcohol wines.
With one memorable phrase being, ‘a drink is a drink’….
